Nirmala Memorial Foundation College of Commerce and Science organised a seminar on Drug Addiction Awareness on Thursday, 07 th March, 2024 09.30 a.m. at the campus. The objective of the seminar was to acquaint the students with the dangers of drug abuse lurking around and how they can safeguard themselves as well as the society from its clutches. Ms. Jignasa Pandya, State Teacher Coordinator for Art of Living as well as an expert in banking, Fintech, Artificial Intelligence and other domains with over 25 years of experience, was the resource person. She captivated the audience, comprising 83 learners from all programs, with startling facts, information and data about drug abuse in our country. She gave detailed glimpses into the way drug abuse can engulf an individual, and also focused on steps that can be taken to eradicate it. The seminar was highly interactive, which also included a meditation session, two-way exchange of information and also a pledge to avoid drugs and protect the society from the destruction it causes. The students were greatly inspired by the impact that the session created on them. Some of them shared their thoughts and suggestions on the subject, and committed to helping build a better, drug-
free tomorrow .
Marrow Donor Registry India (MDRI) and the DLLE Unit of Nirmala Memorial Foundation College of Commerce and Science jointly organized a Stem Cell Donor Registration Drive in the college on Friday, 01st March, 2023.The endeavour is a step towards establishing a connection between patients in quest for a cure from life-threatening diseases. It is achieved by finding life-saving blood stem cells or marrow donors for patients battling serious ailments like cancer, leukemia and many more.
A team of five medical officials led by Dr. Praveen Clement, associated with Tata Memorial Hospital, conducted the camp from 09.00 a.m. to 01.00 p.m. in Block No. 311. They first collected essential information from donors and performed swab tests, which are preserved for helping patients whenever the need arises.33 Nirmalites gave their samples in the camp held this year. As a criterion that the procedure has to adhere to, samples are collected only from those who are above 18 years of age. Those who have already given their samples in the stem cell drives held at the college previously did not have to do it again.Dr. Clement and his team were satisfied with the response, and expressed sincere appreciation for the institution for being a part of the noble cause.
The DLLE Unit and the Voter's Club conducted the second Voter ID Application Drive in the college on Saturday, 17 February, 2024 with a view to assisting those who were unable to avail of the facility in the previous week.This year, the DLLE authorities at the University of Mumbai issued special instructions to affiliated colleges to undertake this endeavour to help
youngsters with the Voter ID cards. Consequently, the DLLE Unit members of the college launched the campaign in
January 2024 to attain this goal. They set up desks at the entrance area in the morning to assist all those who approached them for assistance. The programme commenced at 9.30 a.m. and went on till 1.00 p.m. 18 DLLE Unit registered members helped the applicants with the registration process. A total of 146 students have been the beneficiaries through the online mode
on both the days, apart from 22 students who submitted Voter ID application forms issued by the BMC for the same purpose.
The DLLE Unit undertook a very important initiative of enabling learners of the college take a step towards acquiring their Voter ID Card, a valuable identity document that confers the right to exercise one’s franchise. In keeping with the instructions given by the DLLE University authorities as a key responsibility for the current academic year, the DLLE Unit of the college organised the Voter ID application process on Wednesday, 07 February, 2024. The enthusiastic DLLE Unit members launched a campaign for the Voter ID Card application process on 25 th January, 2024, observed as India’s National Voters’ Day. They set up desks at the entrance area in the morning and welcomed each learner and provided them with the necessary guidance. They continued to reach out to the learners in each class with all the details, which saw up to 105 applications being made on 07 February, 2024.
Since a number of learners did not carry the necessary documents, they requested the DLLE Unit to organise this session again in the college, which will be done soon.
The Mumbai Marathon, the annual international marathon held in Mumbai on the third Sunday of January every year, is the largest marathon in Asia.Titled Tata Mumbai Marathon this year, the mega 19th edition of the Mumbai Marathon was held on Sunday, 21 st January, 2024. Almost 59,000 runners participated in the event this year. Learners of Nirmala Memorial Foundation College of Commerce and Science volunteered as well as participated in the marathon, facilitated by Making the Difference Charitable Trust. Eight members of the DLLE Unit chose to volunteer for the event, The excited volunteers from our college reached the venue by 6.00 a.m. at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). They offered their services in every way they could throughout the event. The run was a good 42km plus long, in which a number of seasoned runners from global
level also participated. The Marathon concluded after more than four hours of power-packed moments, breakthroughs and discoveries for everyone present, including our volunteers.
The DLLE Unit celebrated Republic Day at the college campus on Friday, 26 th January, 2024 with full zeal and enthusiasm. Commemorated for adoption of the Constitution of India way back on 26 th January, 1950, the day is a proud landmark in the history of our nation. 27 members of the DLLE Unit were in attendance. They assembled in the college premises early in the morning to observe the glorious milestone.The national flag of India was unfurled by the dignitaries during the ceremony,followed by customary cultural programmes including speeches, dance and patriotic song.
Learners of Nirmala Memorial Foundation College of Commerce and Science participated in UDAAN the Flight of Extension- 2023-2024, the Annual Extension Work Festival organised by the DLLE Unit of Mumbai University zone wise, on Saturday, 20 January, 2024, at St. Francis Institute of Management and Research (SFIMAR), Borivali. Nirmalites from the DLLE Unit participated enthusiastically in street play, poster making and elocution competitions hosted this year by SCFMAR for 20 colleges in the vicinity. UDAAN, the power-packed cultural, societal and stimulating confluence of extension work, is conducted in a decentralised way in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts annually. Competitions like street play, poster making, elocution, Powada singing and creative writing are held, where participants convey thought- provoking messages about social issues and showcase their skills. Platforms like UDAAN the Flight of Extension offer an opportunity for young minds to discover diverse dimensions of the society and voice their opinions about relevant issues and do their bit.

The DLLE Unit of the college organized a Poster Making Competition for student members of the DLLE Unit on Thursday, 30 November, 2023.The topics for the competition addressed concerns like pollution, saving trees, cleanliness, and the need for mankind to go green and plastic free. The competition witnessed the participants, DLLE registered members, unleash their creativity to the hilt as they conceptualized, drew, shaded and painted the topics chosen by them. Ms. Medha Satpalkar, a contemporary Indian artist Visual Arts with over 20 years of experience in diverse fields of painting, sketching, art and more, was the judge of the competition. She appreciated all the participants, 12 in all, for their effort and gave feedback to each one. She encouraged them to hone their skills in artistic pursuits further, and explore career options in the field of painting.

The DLLE Unit of the college undertook a beach cleanup activity organized by
Child Help Foundation under ISL 2.0 (Indian Swachhata League 2.0) at Uttan
Beach on Sunday, 01 October, 2023. The beach cleanup initiative, titled Swacchata Hi Seva, was the perfectly solution for cleaning the beach after the final day of bidding farewell to Lord
Ganesha.15 DLLE members participated in the activity. Armed with gloves, baskets, and
gunny bags provided by the organizers, they went about the noble task of cleaning the beach enthusiastically. They collected the debris diligently and deposited it as per the instructions
issued to them. It was an enriching and satisfying experience for all the participants, especially
for those who engaged in beach cleaning with the motive of protecting the

The DLLE Unit organized a seminar on Strategies for Sustainable Waste Management on Tuesday, 12th September, 2023 at 11.30 a.m. in collaboration with Making the Difference Charitable Trust.Ms. Jagruti Gupta, a social worker, public speaker, psychologist and workshop facilitator from Making the Difference Charitable Trust, was the Guest Speaker.
Ms. Gupta shared detailed glimpses into a broad range of areas related to sustainable Waste management that comprised: Common faulty practices that citizens indulge in while Waste disposal Segregation of waste Extent of harm that plastic, hazardous material, e-waste and used sanitary pads cause Tips for efficient waste management. The guest also highlighted the concerns that need to be addressed urgently and measures being taken by the government and civic bodies to promote eco-friendly practices. The aim of the seminar was to create awareness about concrete measures that can be adopted to manage waste efficiently for a sustainable and safer future.She got the students to commit to a better, environmentally sustainable lifestyle and be considerate towards the future generation. 89 learners, belonging to all programs, were present in the seminar held in Block 710, eagerly absorbing interesting as well as surprising facts and information given by the Speaker.

The DLLE Unit hosted the very first event for the Academic Year 2023-24 on Thursday, 10th August 2023 from 08.30 am to 02.00 pm. Six DLLE members set up their stalls in the college premises to sell their unique handmade products like snacks, cold drinks, artificial flowers, chocolates, cupcakes, traditional sweet dishes like Puran Poli, etc. During this event, students got the opportunity to show their entrepreneurship skills and unique strategies to sell handmade products.

The DLLE Department and the NSS Unit, along with the sister concerns of the college, held the tricolour and love for the country aloft for Independence Day celebrations on Tuesday, 15th August, 2023 in the college. Members of both DLLE and NSS assembled in the college premises early in the morning to mark the glorious occasion of India’s 76th Independence Day. The programme commenced with the March Past followed by the unfurling of the national flag by college authorities. A host of cultural programmes comprisingSkitsPatriotic songs dance performancesSpeeches depicting India’s freedom struggle, sacrifices and patriotism were held on the occasion. The DLLE and NSS members rendered active support in the organisation of the celebration.
The DLLE department held a beach cleaning activity with the “Beach Warrior “on Friday, 12th March 2022 from 8.00 am till 10. am
There was a total of 37 volunteers who volunteered for the great cause of beach cleaning this activity helped them create their belongingness towards mother nature and how cautious one should be towards mother nature. Even they learned how to work together as a group, which will help them to know their hidden qualities like leadership, management, presentation skills, etc. All the volunteers were overwhelmed by being a part of a noble cause.
The DLLE department holds a Poster Making on the topic ‘‘Social Causes” on Wednesday,9th February 2022. The main moto of poster making was to make awareness among students about the social evils that happen all around. And to abolish such evil practices. There were a total 35 numbers of students who made the poster and showcased their creativity.
The DLLE department holds a Debate on the topic ‘‘Online versus offline mode of education” on Friday, 18th February 2022 at 12.00 noon. For the debate competition, there were around 75 students, the main reason for the debate was to make the students know about the merits and the demerits of both the mode of education. Whereby students expressed their own views so graciously, the main reason for doing debate competition was to make them bold in speaking and to overcome their stage fear so that they can be great leaders and managers. At last, all the students gave their insight about what challenges they are facing in both the modes of education and as we decided as to how can we overcome it.
