Marrow Donor Registry India (MDRI) and the DLLE Unit of Nirmala Memorial Foundation College of Commerce and Science jointly organized a Stem Cell Donor Registration Drive in the college on Friday, 01st March, 2023.The endeavour is a step towards establishing a connection between patients in quest for a cure from life-threatening diseases. It is achieved by finding life-saving blood stem cells or marrow donors for patients battling serious ailments like cancer, leukemia and many more.
A team of five medical officials led by Dr. Praveen Clement, associated with Tata Memorial Hospital, conducted the camp from 09.00 a.m. to 01.00 p.m. in Block No. 311. They first collected essential information from donors and performed swab tests, which are preserved for helping patients whenever the need arises.33 Nirmalites gave their samples in the camp held this year. As a criterion that the procedure has to adhere to, samples are collected only from those who are above 18 years of age. Those who have already given their samples in the stem cell drives held at the college previously did not have to do it again.Dr. Clement and his team were satisfied with the response, and expressed sincere appreciation for the institution for being a part of the noble cause.
